BTS Star Suga Fined $11,500 for Drunk Scooter Incident: What Happened?

Suga, a member of the world-renowned K-pop group BTS, has been fined 15 million won (approximately $11,500 or £8,600) for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated. This news broke following media reports that detailed the incident, which occurred near Suga's home in Seoul.

The artist, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, was indicted in August after police found him attempting to stand up after falling off the scooter. It was at this point that authorities discovered he had been drinking. Local media, quoting police sources, revealed that Suga's blood alcohol level was 0.227%—a staggering figure well above the legal limit of 0.08%.

Last Friday, a district court in Seoul imposed the fine. In addition to the financial penalty, Suga also had his driver's license revoked. The 31-year-old rapper issued a public apology back in August, where he expressed regret for his actions. He admitted to driving the scooter while intoxicated, mistakenly believing he could manage the short trip home. "Although no one was harmed and no property was damaged, this is entirely my responsibility with no excuses," Suga said in a heartfelt statement. He further apologized to anyone hurt by his actions, pledging to ensure such behavior would not happen again.

The incident triggered backlash, with some critics calling for Suga to leave BTS, a group that has long been associated with projecting a clean, wholesome image—a standard that K-pop idols in South Korea are often held to. However, many of Suga's fans rallied in his defense, offering him their support during the difficult time.

Currently, Suga is serving as a social service agent in the military after being deemed unfit for regular combat duty. Despite this unfortunate event, his fans remain hopeful for his future and are eager to see him move forward from the incident.
