BTS Comeback Still Uncertain

Rolling Stone recently reported that "Chairman Bang Si-hyuk clarified that the hope was for the band to reunite in two years, but the matter of their contracts and mandatory military service may prevent that from happening".

It would appear that the K-pop industry as a whole is suffering as a result of the popular South Korean K-pop group BTS's mandatory military service. Bang Si-hyuk, the chairman of HYBE, the organization that represents the group, made this observation. He stated in Seoul that the music genre's global expansion is slowing. The first reason is that BTS doesn't exist. He stated, "I think it's very clear that the biggest factor in bringing about this change in numbers is the fact that BTS is not active as a team." Jin, the group's oldest member, became the first to join the military on December 13 last year 2022.

All able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28 in South Korea are required to serve in the armed forces for approximately 18 to 21 months under the country's policy of mandatory military service. Women are free to serve, but they are not required to.

The maintenance of a robust national defense and the preparation of citizens for emergencies, including potential conflict with North Korea, are the goals of military service. The Korean War came to an end in 1953 with a ceasefire, but no peace treaty was ever signed, so the country is technically still at war with North Korea.

Athletes, musicians, and other public figures who have gained international recognition for their skills and contributed significantly to the country's reputation are exempt from the service. However, these exemptions are extremely uncommon and are only granted after careful consideration on the part of the government.
